AN INTRODUCTION TO DRIVING

Part I Driving, For the fun of it!

 

Saturday, February 4, 2012 (Snow Date Feb 5), 9 AM – 3 PM

Goucher College, 1021 Dulaney Valley Road, Towson, Maryland 21204

9:00 AM–12:30 in the classroom; 12:30 lunch break; 1:30–3 PM in the covered arena

$40.00 per person includes Coffee & Tea in the morning. Bring your own lunch!

Dress warmly for the afternoon session in the covered riding arena.

Advanced drivers, professional instructors, trainers, and licensed ADS officials!

 

Designed by the MLMDC Education Committee for the new or aspiring driver. Whether your goals are driving

for fun, the pleasure show ring, or competing in combined driving events, this is a perfect place to start – and

unique in the amount of information you will receive in one place!

Directions: Baltimore Beltway 695 to Towson, take the Dulaney Valley Road Exit South, go approximately one block and

turn left into the Goucher College Campus, take your first left once you are on Campus Loop Rd, take the first right into the

main park lot. The morning session will be in the Kelly Lecture Hall, walk between the two buildings at the end of the

parking lot, climb 2 short sets of stairs (The Hoffberger Science Building will be on your left), once past the building turn left

on the sidewalk and up another short set of stairs, walk straight ahead to the Kelly Lecture Hall, it sits back between the

Hoffberger Science Building and the Library. My Lady’s Manor Driving Club directional signs will be posted to help

navigate the campus.

Full participation $50 - Morning lecture & Afternoon practice (very limited),

Or Audit $30 – audit all day; No driving (Reinboard practice for auditors as time permits)

After a quick review, we will address the knowledge you need to ensure comfort and safety for you and your

horse. These basic performance skills will stand you in good stead no matter what driving activity interests you.

Whether your goals are driving for fun, the pleasure show ring, or competing in combined driving events, this is a

good place to continue your education.

Coggins must be sent with registration

For Long Lining bring your horse, harness/surcingle or saddle including bridle. Horse MUST be comfortable in bridle & saddle or surcingle, MUST be able to be started in long lines.

Individual lessons of 45 minutes

To have your horse evaluated as a driving horse, bring all the pieces you have (horse, harness, cart)

to be evaluated. If you do not have harness please bring your surcingle or saddle including bridle,

open bridle preferred, horse must be bitted and ready to be evaluated in long lines.

Individual sessions of 45 min to assess the animal’s fitness and readiness to proceed.

Lesson plans will be given to continue the training process at home.

This will be held in the indoor ring.

Auditors, come enjoy our sound system, hear everything!

Anne has competed successfully at the Advanced Level in combined driving and has trained and shown a succession of horses in combined driving, pleasure and dressage. Anne became an ADS Dressage and Combined Driving judge in 1995 and a Pleasure judge in 1997.

 

$50 for 45 minute lesson, $15 for Auditors, Lunch will not be provided

Directions to McDonogh: Baltimore Beltway 695 to Exit 20, RT 140, Reisterstown Rd, north towards Reisterstown, once on Reisterstown Rd go to the fifth light (1.1 miles), turn left onto McDonogh Rd, go 1.2 miles, turn right on Farm Rd (sign that says BARN TRAFFIC ONLY), take your first right once on McDonogh grounds, go past the barn to the parking area. The clinic will be held in the indoor ring in the barn.

This presentation of the My Lady’s Manor Driving Club Education Committee is designed for drivers interested in starting their own driving horses and drivers interested in learning new training techniques for intermediate horses. Sessions will include both theory and hands on practice. An optional consultation with your horse at your place at a later date is included in the fee.

 

This is for people ONLY!

 

We will be working with Margie’s horses.
