It's always best to let the competitors
critique an event, so here are some of their thoughts that were
shared shortly after MLMDC Play Day!

Play Day Organizer

I just got back from My Lady's Manor Driving Club play day (driving
trials)...there aren't enough superlatives to describe the day!
It was SO WELL organized, and SO WELL run! We had a WONDERFUL
time!...and it was well worth the 6 hour drive to get there! The
grounds are great - great parking, great dressage ring, great
marathon, SUPER hazards - very inviting for a "green" horse, and
wonderful cones coarse...I can't stop complementing the show!
Thank you SO much, Candy, and all the volunteers, for all your
effort!...if they do it again next year - you don't want to miss
it!

Hi Candy, Just wanted to thank you for all of the incredibly hard
work and organization you put into yesterday's event. It was definitely
one of the best organized events I have ever seen. Even from just
a volunteer's vantage point, it was obvious that a huge amount of
work went into the play day and everyone had a great time. I hope
you might consider doing this again next year and I will hopefully
be able to bring a pony next time! Thanks again, Laurie Donaldson
p.s. I forgot to add to please pass my thanks on to Rich [Forfa]
for lending us his superb property and providing us with food!

Hi Candy. Just wanted to send you a note to say Thanks! for the
great play day. While it was a long drive, the event was very
well organized and my navigator and I were very impressed. I did
not stay for the awards - if you could mail my dressage test I
would appreciate it. Did we place at all? I thought the marathon
course was wonderful. My only problem was with the water crossing.
My pony is used to water and usually doesn't flinch at anything,
but she didn't like that! There were a lot of rocks and it was
a very rough go - just my 2 cents. Again, thanks for having the
event. From your website, it looks like your club does a lot of
things - keep up the good work. Pat Carlson, Chesapeake,
VA
[Candy notes: Pat came in 2nd overall in Training Pony and I
have mailed both ribbon and test to her.]

Thanks for planning a perfect day for all of us. I just wanted
you to know that I recognize and appreciate all of the trouble
and effort you and your group of helpers went to for all of us.
The people who own the farms were a special group of people to
allow us to use their farms and to volunteer their time and the
farm manager's time to make it happen. I was just a groom, but
totally enjoyed the day. Hopefully the pony felt the same way
too! Thanks again.

I will 'fess up! I was the one who rolled at the MLM play day.
It's not a fun thing to do! The volunteers and people who helped
me out were tremendous. So - now for the ruminations: You can crash
and roll at a play day just the same as at a real CDE. My 'gator
and I went back to the scene of the crime and limped around trying
to figure out what had caused it. Speculating, trying to remember.
I remember the back end was sliding a bit, and perhaps we hit a
rut or clump of grass or something that grabbed a wheel and momentarily
stopped the carriage from sliding - about the only thing left is
to roll. Something to do with this guy named Newton... To the volunteers
and other people who helped me - thank you very much. I don't have
a clue who you all were, but you were great, you were efficient,
you did everything perfectly. Thank you very much! And thanks to
Candy Smith for organizing it - it sounds like most everyone had
a delightful day!
Linda Kalman
[Candy notes: The original message from Linda was much longer and
really identified how quickly a carriage accident can change things
for all of us -- competitors, organizers, and volunteers. Linda,
her 'gator Kay Minton, and Morgan horse Kody are recovering from
the incident and we hope all will be back on the course again soon.]
